Seed pod help in ID!!!!!????

Postby mapsyd on October 3rd, 2009, 7:28 pm

Hello everyone. My partner picked these lovely seed pods from a small tree in Currumbin QLD and I do not know what tree it is??? from his description it sounds like a plant in the family Fabaceae as he described it as looking like a Jacaranda or Colvillea....can anyone ID these seed pods for us as it is driving us (well...me!) crazy not knowing how to sow the seeds and possibly growing the plant... is it warm growing or can it be grown cold, do I need to put seed in boiling water? any advice would be fantastic,
Looking forward to your help and ideas with this.
Cheers

Hi. It looks a great deal like the "pub parrot tree" seed pods, i know cause i clean them out of the gutters surrounding my work place on a regular basis, and yes the parrots get plastered on its nectar.. hence the name.Real name Brachia scotiapetia sorry but the spelling is incorrect.cheers

the tree i mentioned before i think is a leopard tree or caesalpinia. maybe if someone has one growing they can verify if the seeds are the same?

forgot to add re seed propagation, if they are from a leopard tree, soak overnight in warm water plant in pot in a warm but protected place in shade and be patient did your partner notice the bark? they have bark like spotted or lemon scented gum
