Identification of a tree

Postby _Gerard_ on September 28th, 2009, 8:03 pm

Would someone be able to tell me what these trees are? Previous owners plated them and I would like to know what I should be doing to look after them. They are about 3mtrs tall and don’t seem to drop their leaves.

on first glance it looks like a strawberry or cherry guava, or maybe a lilly pilly of some sort?

We have been living here since March and no fruit or flowers yet. I will get some better pictures to see if this will help, the full tree one is pretty dark.
Thanks
Grant.

Yeah some lighter photos would be a help, also try crushing one of the leaves to see if it has a scent! That can be usefull in identification.

The last few weeks they have been getting really hit hard by something eating the new growth. I’m assuming grass hoppers?
I did try the crushing of a leaf for the smell. My very first thought was there was a very faint citrus smell but after a few more I discovered that and couldn’t really match it to anything.
Sorry for the wild goose chase. I have a feeling they are a nut of some sort??
Many Thanks
