Newbie - with dogs!

Postby Gem2009 on November 2nd, 2009, 9:58 am

Hi All

Just came here to look for some ideas to get some good plants, that my dogs won't eat. The Rottweiler seems to love chewing on anything growing: so far 2 madarin trees (about 2 foot tall), camelias, jasmine and numerous seedlings. She also eats the mother in laws tongue, but that grows faster than she eats it!!

Anyways, I will be looking around to get some ideas for pot plants, and the front garden.

seems to me that you'll have to do what i've had to do lately, and thay is to barricade your young trees etc with a wire mesh or dog mesh or similar. ive had mandarin, lemon, orange, mulberry and flame trees etc, all damaged, eaten and chewed by kangaroos and wallabies of all sorts. after a couple of good wet seasons they are all starving since it has been dry. you'll have to be careful with your dog though as some plants are quite toxic. maybe if you coat them with something your dog does'nt like, such as a hot chilli paste
