Look I'm only a lost Paddy barging in on your barbie. There's a discussion going on at my home site (Irish Gardeners) about scarlet runner beans. When we grow them, they wind up poles etc. in a clockwise direction as seen from below. Someone has asked whether the Coriolis effect is at work. Someone else sez "Ask the Aussies". So I'm asking! Do your scarlet runner beans wind upwards in a particular direction and if so what is that direction? Thanks in advance or for homesick Irish "Míle maith agaibh" My direct e-mail address is shaunliamwall@ireland.com

Well I guess that caught no fish. Although 83 of them looked at it.
Maybe Pommies don't talk until they are introduced?
No! That's the Limeys. Aussies are supoposed to be brash and in your face.
Like the Irish: Only more so.

Maybe if I shout?

ANYBODY HOME IN AUSTRALIA IN JANUARY 2011?

ANYBODY IN AUSTRALIA KNOW WHAT RUNNER BEANS ARE?

I'm trying to find out, without shouting whether the Coriolis effect affects climbers like runner beans or honeysuckle. I need to know which way these climbing plants curl as they wind upward. As you look from below, do they spiral from right to left?

Come back to me Australia. I promise not to shout at you anymore.

well as long as I don't get another enquiry about why the guys passion flowers don't set fruit.

I have this Panama Red.............. nah just joshin.. my passionfruit be fine, thanking ye kindly. Never had much time for beans.. plus its a wee bit tropical towards the topend of Australia. But i can tell you this.. my Choko vine is growing in a clockwise direction as it winds its way up my lattice and onto my shed roof, all other vines/ creepers are sending their tendrils/vines in a totally random way. I hope i didnae confuse. cheers from oz and on behalf of all aussies sorry for the long delay. ( most of country still wearing black and in mourning for the loss of the ashes) the others just illiterate and ignorant or hunting roos and crocs :|
