Transplanting Agapanthus

Postby malbaby on January 8th, 2010, 6:29 am

Hi,
Please advise......I wish to transplant mature agapanthus clumps which are currently in flower.
My intention is to divide the clumps into smaller more manageable ones by cutting through with a spade.
Do I need to cut the foliage leaves back, or just leave as is?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wait until they finish flowering before transplanting.I have just separated and moved mine and they are doing well.

just do it, they respond fine, cut them with a spade, you may find it may take a season or 2 for the young ones to flower again, but i would not bother cutting back the leaves also.
